Welcome to HeartSafe America, Inc.!

HeartSafe America, Inc. has made our primary goal to educate the public about Sudden Cardiac Arrest and how automated external defibrillators (AEDs) can save lives.  Over 325,000 lives will be lost this year to Sudden Cardiac Arrest! This is a very shocking but true statistic. Sudden Cardiac Arrest, SCA, is a frequently misunderstood killer as it can affect anyone, anywhere, anytime. This deadly condition is responsible for nearly 325,000 deaths every year, making it one of the leading causes of death among adults.

HeartSafe America, Inc. donates AED V-Shaped wall signs to the Living 4 Zachary Foundation to help create awareness of the locations of AEDs.  HeartSafe America believes that it is important to make the public aware of what defibrillators are and how they can help.  By placing a sign over an AED to let the public know of its existance is the first step.

What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?

SCA is a condition in which the heart stops suddenly and unexpectedly due to a malfunction in the heart's electrical system. This malfunction causes a life threatening abnormal rhythm called an "Arrhythmia." The two most common "Arrhythmia s"  are "Ventricular Fibrillation" (VFIB) and "Ventricular Tachycardia" (VTAC).

When Ventricular Fibrillation occurs, the heart's rhythm becomes so "chaotic" that the heart quivers and can no longer pump blood to the body and brain.

When Ventricular Tachycardia occurs, the heart beats very rapidly causing the heart to pump less efficiently providing less blood flow to the rest of the body, including the heart itself. The increased heart rate also leads to increased work and oxygen demand for the heart, which can cause a heart attack if it persists.

How can SCA be treated?

The only way to combat this condition is with an electrical shock delivered by a small piece of medical equipment called a defibrillator or AED.(Automated External Defibrillator) The electrical current from the defibrillator actually stops the chaotic state of the heart, allowing the heart to reset and start beating normally.

Where can a Defibrillator be purchased?
